Asphalt temperature
If the temperature of asphalt goes below approx. 110 C° (equal to 230 F°) it is getting too cold to obtain a correct and lasting sealing. If this temperature is not obtained the repair will only last for 2 - 3 years instead of the 15 years as it ought to last. The asphalt is often transported a long way from the asphalt factory to the place of deposit. The transport time results in cooling - regardless of temperature and climate. If the asphalt becomes too cold before use, it cannot be used any longer and has to be disposed of.
Regulations by law
In order to secure the correct temperature and the desired quality, the authorities in many countries have prescribed the use of a isolated Thermo Asphalt Container for smaller asphalt jobs, by law. A few examples of such regulations can be seen on this page (open in a separate window!)
What is an OLETTO HotBox (Thermo Asphalt-Container)?
The insulated container is heated with a thermostatic regulator in order to keep the correct temperature. It has an outlet auger for easy unloading. Please see the sketch below:
The advantages of using a Hot-Box / Thermo Asphalt-Container
The use of a Hotbox Thermo Asphalt-Container offers the following advantages:
- Depositing asphalt in optimum quality means long durability and no complaints as well as no cost for reconditioning the bad deposits.
- No or highly reduced waste of cold asphalt. Saving the cost of the asphalt and cost of disposing the useless asphalt.
- Higher productivity, i.e. larger amount of asphalt deposited per day means saving in working hours compared with the traditional way of working. These advantages are achieved with the encapsulated outlet conveyer, and the outlet chute.
- Better working conditions for the employees due to reduced manual work, etc. The operation is easier using with operation handles placed on the outlet conveyer, which also offers precise dosages.
- Extended road working season.
